The aim of this study was to investigate Reliability and validity of the Persian version of Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale in the higher function children with cerebral palsy.
Materials &Methods: A total 56 children with cerebral palsy (6.59±1.84 y) were diagnosed with level I or II adhering to the Gross Motor Function Classification System and 56 healthy children who matched them with age and gender participated in this cross –sectional study. The Persian version of Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale and Pediatric Berg balance scale were executed. The internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and content, discriminate and concurrent validity of the Persian version of Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale were examined.
Results: good test -retest reliability (ICC=0.99), excellent internal consistency (the Cronbach's alpha coefficient = 0.98), SEM =.22, MDC=1.83 and SDC=.61 were found for the Persian version of Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale. All items have good content validity. The Spearman's rank Correlation Coefficients between the Persian version of Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale and Pediatric Berg balance scale indicated good Concurrent validity (r=0.91, P<0.001). The AUC of 0.96 (95% CI: 0.93-0.99) and cut off value of 31.5(Sensitivity: 0.89, and Specificity: 0.11) of the Persian version of Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale were detected.
Conclusion: The results show that the Persian version of Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale could be useful as a valid and reliable tool for assessing balance function in children with CP, however it is shorter and takes less time to perform.
