Objectives: Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to improve the effectiveness of nursing practice, accuracy, and quality of care by reducing workload and freeing up nurses to concentrate more on complex decision-making and direct patient care. The goal of the study was to assess the attitudes and knowledge of nurses about artificial intelligence technology.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study design was conducted from September 25, 2024, to April 1, 2025. A convenient sample of (354) nurses was selected from different departments of the hospitals, which include surgical wards, medical, intensive care unit, emergency, dialysis, and maternal and child units. There were three sections to the questionnaire: l: the Nurses' Sociodemographic variables (SDVs), ll: (the nurses' AI knowledge questionnaire), lll: attitudes toward artificial intelligence scale (AAIS). Data were evaluated using both descriptive (percentages and frequencies) and inferential (Cronbach's alpha, Kruskal-Wallis H test, Mann-Whitney U analysis, and Pearson correlation coefficient) statistics.
Results: 57.6% of the participants were female, according to the study's findings, and 94.4% of them had not received training courses regarding artificial intelligence. (85.6 %) of nurses had moderate knowledge, and (83.3 %) had positive attitudes regarding artificial intelligence. There was a correlation between the nurses' attitudes and their knowledge as well as between their knowledge and certain characteristics (age, educational background, department or unit, training program) at p ≤ 0.05.
Discussion: The majority of nurses have a moderate degree of understanding, according to statistical results, and their attitudes about artificial intelligence are generally positive.
