Purpose: Aphasia has a pervasive and long-term effect on the lives of clients and their families. Although the prevalence of aphasia is increasing in Iran, there is no information on the quality of speech therapy services for PWA in this country. This study aimed to investigate the barriers and facilitators affecting the speech therapy services to PWA from the perspectives of speech therapists in Iran.
Methods: In this study, 20 speech therapists participated in semi-structured individual interviews to collect data. Data analysis was performed by the Burnard method
Results: Barriers and facilitators affecting speech therapy services based on the experience of speech therapists were divided into five categories: Factors related to the Speech therapist, the client and family, the treatment place, the client’s presence in the treatment place, and the community.
Conclusion: PWA, their families, and speech therapists’ expertise were all influential in providing optimal speech therapy services to PWA.
