Abstract: (48 Views)
This letter argues that Iran’s ageing population faces a structural gap in rehabilitation services despite clear demographic urgency. It documents barriers across infrastructure, education, financing, referral systems, governance, and self-care; notes equity failures affecting older, uninsured, severely impaired, and underserved adults; and highlights caregiver burden. It identifies opportunities within primary healthcare, the family physician programme, the SIB information infrastructure, community-based rehabilitation, and telerehabilitation, while warning that digital solutions may widen inequity without investment in digital literacy and caregiver support. It proposes four priorities: integrate geriatric rehabilitation into primary care; train the workforce in geriatric competencies; extend financial protection; and mainstream mental health and caregiver support. The letter calls for evidence-informed policy and journal-led debate on geriatric rehabilitation in Iran.
