Abstract

Rehabilitation is the ongoing management of injuries and disabilities after an accident. It will help people to maximize the individuals` recovery through the relearning of skills or teaching of strategies to compensate for changed abilities. Self-esteem may be one major factor related to the manner in which people with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) respond to rehabilitation. Following a short discussion on related concepts this article will report a study and conclude that, pertaining to vulnerabilities in self-esteem, the second year following SCI may be just as critical a time period as the initial one after the injury.  If replicated, this finding is of potential importance in the rehabilitation field. For example, the majority of psychological services are currently available at the acute stage of injury. People with SCI are most often discharged from hospital when they are physiologically stable and physically deemed ready for the discharge. It is precisely at this point, however, that people with new SCI may have many questions and concerns their new role in the community. The current study suggests that perhaps practitioners need to make a more concerted effort in dealing with the psychological effects of SCI when difficulties may arise in the community.

Abstract

Objectives: The main purpose of the present study is to consider the rate of impression in group mental rehabilitation based on the regulation of self recognition sources on augmentation of self-respect among 14- to 18-year old female prisoners.

Methods: 30 female social seekers were randomly selected from the whole population, 15 of which were gathered in control group and the rest 15 within evidence group. First, GHQ papers (General Health Questionnaire) were distributed among the girls in order to evaluate their mental status. Pre- and Post- Cooper Smith self-respect tests were formulated both before and after interventions on experiment group. Interventions were accomplished during 9 sessions within three months by group consulting based on the configuration of self-recognition (collected by Younesi 2007). Considering the point that remedy plans are not utilized for the evidence group and they are evaluated by gathered marks achieved by the two tests to compare average discriminations.

Results: After applying remedy interventions, social seekers from experimental group manifested meaningful augmentation during the test of self-esteem invented by Cooper Smith compared with social help seekers from control group.

Discussion: The findings indicated that group mental rehabilitation would increase self-esteem in its four dimensions among the subjects. The findings showed that mental rehabilitation based on self knowledge resources is useful for improvement of juvenile detainee's self-esteem.

Abstract

Objectives: Throughout history, people have lived through various situations of security, peace, recovery, and war, as well as the cruelty over the diversity, intensity, duration, or shortness of life. This study aimed to assess the self-esteem of amputees living in Hilla City, Babylon Province, in Center of Iraq.
Methods: A descriptive correlational study was conducted to determine the association between body image and self-esteem of amputees. By a purposive sampling method, 200 subjects from both genders and different age groups (25-35, 36-46, 47-57, 58-68, and >69 years) were recruited. The study data were collected through the modified questionnaire of multidimensional body-self relations questionnaire, Rosenberg self-esteem scale, and interviews with the patients individually. The obtained data were collected and analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: Most participants were male patients aged between 58 and 68 years. The lower limbs were the most amputation site caused by the war for less than five years. The majority of amputees had negative responses toward their body image. As well as depicts (39%) as a majority response of amputated patients were never feel with their self-esteem. There was a high reverse association between body image and self-esteem (P<0.01).
Discussion: Our analysis reflects that amputees see themselves negatively, which leads to a lack of self-esteem. Also, a feeling of negative body image affects their self-esteem. Hospitals should provide specialists in mental health and psychological therapy to increase the chance for early intervention and psychological treatment in these cases. The hospitals must provide programs to guide amputees and reduce their psychological problems.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aimed to develop an explanatory model of assertiveness based on parenting styles mediated by anxiety and self-esteem.
Methods: This study is descriptive-correlational modeling with partial least squares. The statistical population included singleton children of the sixth grade of the elementary school in the 3rd District of Tehran in the academic year 2017-18. The sampling method was multi-stage sampling; eight schools (four all-boys and four all-girls) were randomly selected from all primary schools in the 3rd District of Tehran, then, a sixth-grade class was randomly selected in each school. The singleton students of those classes participated in the present study as the study sample. The sample size was 118 students (81 girls and 37 boys). The instruments of this research included the Persian forms of adaptive and aggressive assertiveness scales (AAA-S), the Baumrind parenting scale, Beck anxiety inventory (BAI), and Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES). To analyze the data, the SPSS software, version 26.
Results: The results indicated that authoritative and permissive parenting styles had a significant effect on assertiveness among the parenting styles. The total effects indicated that authoritative and permissive parenting styles explained 0.22 and 0.20 of the variances of assertiveness. The results also showed that the authoritarian parenting style had no significant effect on assertiveness.
Discussion: The suggested model was acceptably fit, according to the results of the study. Permissive and authoritative parenting styles had impact on assertiveness.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between demographic data and self-esteem levels among school-age students.
Methods: A descriptive research design (correlational design) was conducted using probability random sampling included 240 participants. The study instruments were the index of self-esteem (ISE) and the bully scale. The statistical methods included a percentage test, normal distribution test, Mean±SD test, t-test and Spearman test using SPSS software, version 26.
Results: The study results showed the analysis of the demographic characteristics of the target sample, a large number of the samples were in the age group of 10-11 years and boys. Also, the study results showed the evaluation responses for the study subject about bullying victims and self-esteem that most students suffer from strong bullying (65.5%) and most students have low self-esteem (81.2%). However, a significant relationship is observed between evaluation responses for bullying victims and self-esteem domains at a P<0.05.
Discussion: The present study concludes that most students’ responses to bullying victims are strong bullying, the study highlights the potential effect of bullying on students’ self-esteem and raises potential problems. The results suggest that increasing students’ self-esteem may be an effective strategy to enhance student outcomes. The study recommends that further studies are required on the nature of this event that lead to defining the etiology of bullying victims. It should include family dynamics and other situations of vulnerability, as well as qualitative strategies for early detection and investigation of bullying behaviors.

Abstract

Objectives: Children with hearing loss often undergo considerable pain and distress due to their hearing impairment, leading to challenges in engaging constructively with others. Using games, mainly through play therapy, can significantly enhance interaction and adjustment in children, especially those with hearing impairments. This research seeks to evaluate the impact of play therapy on the adaptation and self-confidence of children dealing with hearing challenges.
Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted at a welfare center affiliated with the Hamadan University of Medical Sciences in western Iran. Sixty-two children with hearing loss were selected from the welfare center. They were then assigned to the play therapy or control group using block random sampling. The pre- and post-intervention assessments included completing demographic information, an adaptability questionnaire for elementary school children, and a self-esteem inventory.
Results: The implementation of play therapy led to a significant increase in adaptability immediately after the intervention and one month later (P<0.001). Moreover, a notable difference was observed between the two groups at the end of the study (P<0.001). Throughout the research, play therapy consistently elevated the self-esteem of the children. After the study, a noticeable difference was observed between the two groups (P<0.001).
Discussion: lay therapy effectively increased adaptability and improved self-esteem in children with hearing loss. So, caregivers can use play therapy as therapeutic care to increase social adaptation and self-confidence in these children.
